Supreme Commander is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that is being developmed by Gas Powered Games, founded by Total Annihilation developer Chris Taylor.
It is estimated that the game will be released in 2007
A public beta has not been officially comfirmed. However, Gas Powered games have hinted that if there is a public beta, then invites will go out to members of Gas Powered Games' e-mail mailing list and/or regular posters on their web forums. Both can be found on the Gas Powered Games web site.
Total Annhilation was often abbreviated to the acronym TA. However, due to the potential confusion with another real time strategy game called StarCraft, most fans of Supreme Commander prefer to avoid usinng the SC acronym and opt for SupCom instead.
The official sequel to Total Annihilation was called Total Annihilation: Kingdoms. Both TA and TA:K were made by Cavedog which was owned by GT Interactive. Chris Taylor (the designer of Total Annihilation) had left Cavedog before the development of Kingdoms started. Most Total Annihilation fans thought that Kingdoms was a terrible game and they don't regard it as a 'true' sequel because Chris Taylor was not involved. GT Interactive is now owned by Infrogrames and therefore the Total Annihilation name can not be used without their permission. As a result, Chris Taylor (who now works at Gas Powered Games) can not create an official sequel with the Total Annihilation name. However many fans are alreadiy declaring Supreme Commander to be the 'true' sequal to the original Total Annihilation.
