Betrayal in Antara Review

When I first heard about Betrayal in Antara, I knew I had to buy it. I had liked the original (Betrayal in Krondor) so much that any sequel was automatically on my "buy list"! However, I would wait until I had completed Betrayal in Krondor before buying it. Due to various accidental deletions of my saved game files, this took considerably longer than anticipated! By the time I had completed Krondor, Betrayal in Antara had come out on budget label! So, I parted with my £14.99 and set the game to work!

I did not regret the purchase. This is an excellent sequel. It's full of improvements. the designer has taken nothing away from the original game, he's only added. The graphics are a lot better (although still not fantastic). The interface is just the same but with a few improvements. The new music and sounds adds a lot more atmosphere to the game. A particularly nice feature is the way that the story is narrated. The original game just had long texts at the end of each chapter which had to be read through. Now, you can sit back and listen as the story unfolds!

The game is not based on any of Raymond E. Feist's work, indeed Raymond has had nothing to do with this game. However, there's a whole new world to discover with new characters. The character depth is as good as the original, and the story is strong as well.

What the designer has done is take the original game, give it a new plot and new characters and then update it in line with the improvement in technology. It all works rather well and I'd recommend it to any Krondor fan. If you've not played Betrayal in Krondor, I'd suggest that you play it first before buying this game, but It's not of great importance.
